Eye exams x 4

Yesterday we had the audacity to bring all four of our little ones to the ophthal- mologist at once (after having to reschedule several times --the clinic and ourselves-- it just worked out that way). The doctor said he'd never do it for any other family but ours. We're not sure if that was his way of saying "don't ever do it again" or if he was truly complimenting us. ;o)

Our kids LOVE their eye doctor; he's really good with them! I have a few photos here of Joel because he was first. He really doesn't mind this exam and was a ham with the different glasses on.

Gabe came along to help. Here he is wrestling with the boys in the exam room. They figure if he's on the floor he's fair game. Just like puppies.
Ella didn't feel like wrestling, she was watching "Monsters Inc" and finds herself identifying with "Boo".

After that, things got a little wilder and Papa didn't remember to take more photos on his cell phone because we had our hands full. Ella fought wildly at having her eyes dilated and then later having the light shown in-- by the time she was done she fell asleep.

It was discovered that Ella has developed astigmatism and has to have glasses again. :o( She didn't need them after the surgeries that uncrossed her eyes. But Ella has been looking sideways at everything for several months. Both of her eyes are the same, she looks sideways from either direction to compensate for the astigmatism. Trying to choose glasses for her yesterday would have been fruitless; we'll go back another day soon.

Even Lucy had her first eye exam. She slept through the first part with the nurse, the dilation and all that. Her eyes were open for the doctor though and she checked out fine. She goes back in one year unless her eyes begin to wander (which is common with Down syndrome).

The doctor said he feels Timmy's progress is significant; he was pleased with Tim's visual alertness with his glasses on.

He said Joel's vision has improved and although he still has to tilt his head to compensate for his left eye not following the right, more surgery isn't required at this time.

Joel and Timmy go back in 6 months, Ella in 3.

So there you have it. Whew!

It sounds like a full day! :) I'm ever impressed by Gabe and his natural, wonderful way with kids! He's a real treasure! :) I think that about Lora too! :) I don't know if your kids come by it naturally or if they learned it from "Momma and Papa", but they are very impressive!! :) One of the very most important skills we can learn in this life is how to interact, associate with, and love one another! That's the most Christlike trait there is, and it seems to come as easy to your family as breathing is to rest of mankind! :) Sure love you guys! :)
