This is saying a lot. The IEP or Individualized Education Plan for each child is a big deal. I think about the decisions we make for our children constantly and this meeting brings it all into living color. This meeting is held with the child's team of teacher, special ed teacher, in-school therapists, district special ed director, psychologist, school nurse, principal, etc.
I listen to all things presented about my child, ask questions and give input on my child. At each meeting I learn more about the school system that I didn't know before. I usually learn new things about my child and the way the team sees him or her. We agree to various goals and interventions for my child for the year between this and the next IEP meeting.
I often come home and shed tears. I can see from the list of attendees on the IEP reminder that there is a new plan being considered for Joel. I'm praying for wisdom.

They are difficult at times, some are easy going, others leave you weary. I often cry after them too.
You are absolutely right. It is encouraging to know that parents understand the importance of the IEP meetings and participate in them. They are the best chance to keep in touch with your child's educational development.
I've only been on the teacher end of IEP meetings, so I can't even imagine what it is like for you. I only know that I really wanted to work with the parents to make their child's life the best it could be. My heart is so full of empathy for you right now. I hope Joel's will be more uplifting for you.
