We learned at the last ophthalmologist appointment that Ella will have eye surgery this summer. I usually notice just the one eye turning in, but the doc showed me by covering each eye individually and then quickly peeking at the covered eye that she switches eyes, one looking at you while the other is turned in, using whichever eye is uncovered. He explained that she is "seeing double" and now I understand why she hesitates so much to walk over a change in flooring or uneven surfaces outdoors. In spite of all we have tried, Doctor said that this problem was going to show up eventually and she needs surgery on one or both eyes. So, it's scheduled.
Ella's eye problem is called esotropia, or eyes turning inward. Joel's do the opposite at times and his diagnosis is exotropia. This is why Joel tilts his head, to compensate for the eye that doesn't follow on its own. Interesting, huh?

Dolores,
Meghan's eyes did the same thing, she has successful sugery for it in 2004. Her late eye surgeon explained that eventually one of her eyes would stop seeing if we let it continue, so of course we had the very short strabismus surgery.
Thank goodness it is an outpatient procedure, praying all goes well with Ella's
