Eyes + ears + tonsils + adenoids

Ella's appointment with the ENT this morning resulted as we expected it would. Ella's tonsils are nearly touching, her sleep is constantly interrupted, the tonsils need to come out. The doctor said that her frequent sinusitis is most likely caused by her adenoids so those will also need to come out.

He gave me the name of the diagnosis Timmy had; the reason Timmy couldn't have his adenoids out when they went in for his tonsils last fall: "Velopharyngaeal Insufficiency" or "VPI". He said that just by looking at Ella she probably doesn't have that problem, but it is more common in kids with Down syndrome.

Also, both of Ella's ears tested "flat" today, meaning there is no movement of the ear drum, and she's not hearing well at all -- most likely because her ears are full of fluid. She continues to have this problem (even after tubes, a while later the ABR showed some hearing loss) and so once again they will go in to drain the fluid and place ear tubes... and hope that helps her hearing. I will be pushing for follow up testing!!!

The scheduler was going to work with the ophthalmologist's scheduler to see if the eye surgery could be done at the same time to reduce the number of times Ella has to be anesthetisized.

Sounds like our visit ;) I hope you are able to get it all taken care of quickly! I think once the kids can see, hear, breathe (and in our case, have a working heart), they're sure to be able to take in their environments better! Let us know when she gets scheduled!
